If your database has gone 'missing' please follow these steps to retrieve it.

If you've moved Payback from one computer to another and your database did not copy across.
On the old computer, make a back up of your data.
1. Backup your Payback data. To do this select 'Admin' on the left and click the 'Backup' icon. Then click the 'Backup' button. Payback will prompt you for a file name. Save the file to somewhere you can easily remember, like your Desktop.

2. Copy the data from your old PC to your new PC. Copy the file you backed up to the new PC to a location you can easily remember, like the Desktop. You can use a USB key, a CD-R, or even email yourself the file to copy it to the new PC.

If you've installed Payback, and entered your registration details on the new computer, you can restore the backup you made:
3. Restore your data. Select 'Admin' on the left, click 'Backup', select the 'Restore' tab, and click the 'Restore' button. Choose the backup file you copied across from your old PC, and click 'OK'

If have had a virus, or hard disk failure and need to reinstall Payback
Did you make a recent backup of your data? If you did, then you can restore this.
To restore your data: Select 'Admin' on the left, click 'Backup', select the 'Restore' tab, and click the 'Restore' button. Choose the backup file, and click 'OK'

If you didn't make a backup, then there might be a copy somewhere on your computer.
To search for this:

- select 'Admin' on the left and select the 'Support' icon.
- Click the 'Diagnotics' tab.
- Clicking 'Search for Datafiles'

This process may take a while. Please let it finish.
When the list of databases has finished, check the 'last used date'. The latest one, that isn't displayed in red, is the one most likely to be the most recent version of your data.
(The red one is the one you are currently using)

- Double click the database to restore it.

You just logged in and your database seems to have disappeared.
Did you turn on or off the UAC (User Access Control)?
When User Access Control is switched on, windows creates a virtual store for anything saved to c:\program files\ which includes the payback folder. The virtual store is a shadow copy of the 'real' c:\program files\ folder.

We suggest returning the UAC to its original state, ie switch it off if you turned it on.

Are you logging in as a different user?
Please make sure you log in as the same user. In windows 7 and windows vista it can appear that you've lost your data when you change users.

Have you, or someone else, changed the database location within Payback?
You can change the database location by selecting 'Admin' on the left and select the 'Support' icon. Click the 'Diagnotics' tab. Clicking the 'Database Location' button will allow you to change the location that Payback uses for the database.

Please always make regular back ups of your data! To do this:
- Click Admin at the bottom of the main menu at the left of the screen
- Select the Backup icon
- Click the Backup button in the Back up tab
- Give the file a name and save it.
We suggest saving backed up data on a different computer to where you have Payback installed.
