We are pleased to announce the release of the 2011 version of Payback.
Please leave any feedback, including change requests in Comments and Suggestions forum

Release notes for Payback 9.01 (2011 version).
General information.
There have been some significant changes for 2011.

Tax credits and Standard Rate Cut off Point.
For most people, these will be reduced for 2011. This means they will pay more tax. Before processing the
first payment of 2011, make sure you've updated the employees' Tax Credits and Standard Rate Cut off Point.
If you do not do this, employees may end up owing tax when their credits are updated.

Income Levy/USC
The Income levy has now been replaced by, (or renamed) USC. This is the Universal Social Charge. Revenue
have release a FAQ that can be downloaded here.

http://www.revenue.ie/en/press/budget/2 ... e-faqs.pdf
(They tend to change this frequently, so please check for updated versions)

- Medical card holders are no longer automatically exempt from the USC.
- The 65 Year old age threshold has been increased to 70 years old.
- Revenue will be dealing with any refunds of USC, directly.
- The percentages have been increased.

PRSI.
The €75036 pay ceiling has now been abolished. This means PRSI will increase for employees earning over €75036.
'S' Class directors now pay the same employee PRSI rate (4%) as 'A' class employees.

Pensions
Pensions are now liable for USC and PRSI. Employer's PRSI is currently charged at 50% of the PRSIable gross for pensions.
(Employees may want to re-evaluate contributing to Pensions)

How to Upgrade.
This year we've had to have two versions. 8.x is for payments between 2004 and 2010. 9.x (2011 version) is for
payments made on or after 1 Jan 2011. This is an unfortunate situtation, but the changes were just too great
to put everything into the same version as we have done in the past.
When you've finished the upgrade, you'll notice two icons:

The icon labelled 'Payback' is for 2004 to 2010
The icon labelled 'PaybackIE' is for 2011 onwards

PLEASE NOTE: There will be two versions of Payback. One with data from 2004 to 2010, and the other one for data for 2011 onwards

1. Don't uninstall or remove your existing version of Payback. Your existing payroll data will be copied across automatically.

2. IMPORTANT! Backup your 2010 data before proceeding. This is a simple process, and failing to backup could result in the loss of your payroll data for the entire year. (We're not joking! please make sure you've backed up your database, especially if you're running Vista) Here's how to do a backup;

- Start Payback
- Click 'Admin' on the left, and the 'Backup' button
- Click the 'Backup' tab at the top, and the 'Backup' button
- Call the file '2010data' and save it to your desktop

3. Exit from Payback

4. Download the upgrade file by clicking here: http://www.payback.ie/downloads/setup.exe (Save it to your desktop when prompted)

5. From your desktop, run the setup.exe file by double-clicking it

6. Click 'Yes, Next or Ok' all the way through the installation wizard

7. Start up Payback. After a few seconds you should get a message saying 'Upgrade was successful'

8. Ensure the version number at the top of the screen reads 'Payback Version 9.01'

9. Check your data is intact, and that all you employees are listed.

10. If your employees are NOT present, then restore it from the backup you created in step 2 as follows;

- Start Payback
- Click 'Admin' on the left, and the 'Backup' button
- Click the 'Restore' tab at the top, and the 'Restore' button.
- Select the file '2010data' from your desktop and click 'Ok'
- Wait for the file to restore, then restart Payback

Frequently asked questions

Here are some questions we often get asked during the annual upgrade. Please check this list before contacting support.

Q. My employees have disappeared!

A. Make sure you've backed up before upgrading (Step 2 above), then follow the instructions in step 10 above. If you didn't make a backup then you should be able to restore from any of your earlier backups. If you don't have any backups then email us on support@payback.ie and we'll see what we can do. But if you've lost your data and you don't have any backups then unfortunately the chances of recovering your data are minimal.

Q. When do I import or enter my employee's 2011 tax credits?

A. Do not import or enter employee's 2011 tax credits until you've finished all your 2010 payroll runs and are ready to start running the 2011 payroll.

Q. How much does this upgrade cost?

A. This update, like all Payback updates, is included in your annual licence fee. We recommend that you regularly check our website for updates.

Q. It's still not working / I'm having problems with the upgrade

A. If you have any questions about the upgrade process, click here first to check if the question has been answered already on the support forums. If you can't find an answer on the forum, then submit a support ticket describing your problem - this is the fastest way to get a response.
